If you are suspicious of the title of this
article...good! I think you should be. It sounds like it
comes straight from the cover of one of those
magazines with the impossibly thin model on the
cover, doesn't it? Being an informed and careful
consumer, especially when it comes to weight loss
products and programs, is essential. There are so
many empty promises out there. Read on, though,
and you'll find out that sometimes things that sound
too good to be true, are true.

bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and
minor in Nutrition and Food Sciences. After working

| Book Club - The Rules of "Normal" Eating |
 |
|
Written in easy-to-understand, everyday language,
The Rules of "Normal" Eating lays out the four basic
rules that "normal" eaters follow instinctively - eating
when they're hungry, choosing foods that satisfy
them, eating with awareness and enjoyment, and
stopping when they're full or satisfied. Along with
specific skills and techniques that help promote
change, the book presents a proven cognitive-
behavioral model of transformation that targets
beliefs, feelings, and behaviors about food and eating
and points the way toward genuine physical and
emotional fulfillment. Readers learn how to reprogram
their dysfunctional beliefs, manage uncomfortable
feelings without turning to food, and establish new
eating habits that tune their bodies into natural
sensations of hunger, pleasure, satisfaction, and
satiation. Filled with humorous insights, compassion,
and practical wisdom, the book outlines balanced
attitudes and patterns that benefit all types of
eaters.

Question and Answer
Q: How do I lose weight from a specific
place on my body?
A:There is no way to target weight loss to a
specific area of the body because your body decides
where it wants to put on weight and where it wants
to take it off. The midsection is a common "problem"
area for many people.
The best way to lose fat is through cardiovascular
exercise. It is important to do a variety of exercises
to strengthen these areas, but until that excess fat
is gone, you will not see the muscle definition. For
example, if you’re not doing cardio, crunches are not
going to help get the 6-pack you’ve been hoping for.
Regular cardio exercise at a level that’s challenging
for you is your best bet.

Weight-Management Tip
Find many different ways to measure your
progress
Pretend for a minute that gravity doesn’t exist.
Everything is weightless, including your aunt Sophie,
yet it all manages to stay on the ground. You don’t
know how much you weigh because scales have
never been invented. How would you define your
state of health? After all, you wouldn’t be able to
say "I need to lose 10 pounds" or "I weigh 150
pounds, so I must be overweight."...
