What is Pilates? Pilates is a full body exercise program developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. The method emphasizes body alignment and correct breathing, using the core muscles (abdomen, lower back and pelvic floor) as a power center, enabling the whole body to move freely. Originally called "Contrology" by Pilates, the exercises focus on controlled movements designed to build strength in the core muscles.
